Marketing Program Manager, Life Sciences and Pharmaceutical Discovery

The Marketing Programs Manager is responsible for the strategy, management, execution and ultimate success of Accelrys’ global marketing plans that target the life sciences and pharmaceutical discovery markets.  Global marketing programs are focused on generating qualified leads and sales opportunities for the Accelrys sales organization. Programs will be built by assessing the market opportunity, reverse engineering sales targets and leveraging market trends.  Programs will be built to market Accelrys product offerings by addressing the business problems that they solve and by accentuating benefits to the people that make, approve and influence purchase decisions.  This position will be located at the Cambridge, UK office, the European HQ for Accelrys.  As such, this role also will be responsible for understanding regional priorities and communicating those to corporate marketing and the other program managers.  They also will be the key marketing contact for local management and will engage and interact with the field organization and senior management within that location on a regular basis.

Each global program that is designed and executed will require a solid understanding of the needs of the market, clear and consistent messaging, relevant offers, and appropriate and timely demand creation vehicles to maximize impact.  A conceptual architecture for the paths that each target audience will move through in their buying process will be built, personas will be developed and sales enablement pieces will be created to support the team as they work to move prospects through the sales funnel from problem recognition to purchase.

Specific responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Life Sciences Product Marketing team to develop and execute a demand generation strategy that will identify, educate, and motivate prospective and current Accelrys customers.
  • Work closely with each regional sales organization and other marketing functions to effectively target programs and acquire content, resources, and support to ensure program success.
  • Cost-effectively manage relationships with outside vendors as necessary for any program execution services.
  • Coordinate and communicate activities with the corporate marketing organization.
  • Create and track metrics to measure results from marketing programs and ensure positive ROI.
  • Contribute to the overall success of market development initiatives as a key team member. 
  • Take initiative to improve marketing related processes and practices.
  • Coordinate and communicate activities with worldwide marketing and sales organizations.

Qualifications:

  • Proven ability to articulate compelling and targeted value propositions for enterprise software customers.
  • Significant related work/industry experience.
  • BA/BSc degree in Business, Marketing, Communications or Management preferred, MBA desired.
  • Experience with Salesforce.com or similar CRM / sales force automation tools.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong project and budget management skills and ability to simultaneously coordinate multiple projects.
  • Strong knowledge of marketing mix and demand generation activities.
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech fields is desirable.

Product Marketing Manager, Biological Sciences

This position will be accountable for the development and implementation of market research, planning, positioning, pricing, and promotion activities.  S/he will proactively assess the effectiveness of our worldwide sales channel strategies by providing field sales personnel with the knowledge, strategy and materials to ensure sales effectiveness. The successful candidate will be a self-starter with strong organizational skills, leadership capabilities, and an ability to manage multiple projects to completion. An ability to build relationships and work well in teams will be expected.

Key responsibilities of this position include:

  • Development of go-to-market plans for the Biotechnology Sector.
  • Developing sales tools that highlight product positioning and provide compelling value propositions, conducting sales education seminars, as well as executing market and competitive research analysis.
  • Working with Business Development to identify, develop and promote key partnerships and strategic alliances with organizations in the Biotechnology Sector. 
  • Leveraging available resources to facilitate knowledge transfer of industry information to internal constituencies.                

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Experience within the Biotechnology related industries (genomics, proteomics, bioinformatics, etc.).
  • Familiarity with Sequence Analysis, Next Generation Sequencing, Mass Spec for Proteomics, Gene Expression and R-Statistics technologies preferred.
  • Experience in a business discipline (sales, marketing, product management, or product marketing) preferably within the software industry. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology is required; MBA preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative team orientation.

Academic Account Manager

Targeting the academic sector you will acquire, maintain and retain key clients throughout Europe with a particular focus on the UK market and English speaking countries. Your role will involve account development, proposing and presenting Accelrys’ solutions and closing the sales of software/services.

We’ll provide you with training and the knowledge you need to target the academic sector, what we want from you is a successful track record of selling solutions over the phone complemented by the ability to achieve and exceed on quarterly sales targets. Used to identifying customer needs and proposing bespoke solutions, you know how to develop new business and build relationships at all levels, particularly over the telephone and via email, and you can qualify and prioritise incoming leads with the view to taking them to a sale.

As an Account Manager your compensation will comprise a competitive base salary plus significant commission earnings and a full array of company benefits including attendance at the yearly sales meeting in San Diego, Happy Hour Fridays and Pizza Thursdays.
