Director of Sales, Strategic Accounts

Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales & Services, the Director of Sales will provide direct and matrix leadership to our global strategic accounts team, directly managing the Americas team and providing global direction on account strategy and management to the teams in European and Asian territories. This key leadership position will focus specifically on driving largely subscription-based license growth in our key accounts within the life and material science customer and prospect base.  This account base includes the world’s top 10 pharmaceutical companies and accounts for approximately 1/3 of our business. This challenging and rewarding opportunity will provide the seasoned sales executive with considerable expertise selling complex B2B products and solutions to the IT buyer at the executive level a role of significant visibility and influence within the organization.  The Director will champion and promote the sales vision by providing world-class sales leadership standards through excellence in account planning and strategy, field franchise management, and excellence in sales operations execution.

Responsibilities & Deliverables:

  • World-class salesforce management of the strategic account business, developing the team as an enterprise sales and services-oriented experts, honing the skills of a team able to call high within our customer/prospect accounts and unparalleled in imparting the value of scientific business intelligence products and services.
  • Achieve sales quota objectives by leveraging Accelrys’ current position within our customer-base and expanding our footprint by selling deeper into existing user-base and wider throughout the organization.
  • Drive best practices across the sales organization with emphasis on developing strong, long-term franchise relationships with both internal and external partners.
  • Provide insight and feedback to marketing relative to customers’ critical business issues and solutions opportunities.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in increasingly senior level sales management roles with specific experience in software.
  • Solid background in selling business to business products and solutions (experience with enterprise-wide CRM, ERP, or BI-based solutions) with a strong background in field leadership, and sales operations.
  • Expertise and a proven track record of creating highly productive sales teams that have delivered complex, multi-million dollar deals comprised of both software and services.  Experience in the life science/materials science industries desired.
  • Success in developing C-level relationships.
  • Proven ability to articulate compelling, industry-focused, value propositions for enterprise software customers.
  • High-energy, driven, and self-motivated with an entrepreneurial spirit and a commitment to excellence.
  • Domestic and some international travel required.

Sales Trainer

We’re looking for an experienced Sales Trainer that will become a trusted internal partner within our global sales organization. The primary responsibilities of the position will be the design, creation and maintenance of a new hire training program as well as the coaching and training of our talented sales force.  This dynamic opportunity will manage a weekly communications program consisting of webinars, newsletters and maintenance of a MS Sharepoint site for sales information releases, references and any other field related needs. Other key responsibilities include working closely with Marketing in the development of sales readiness kits, providing guidance on global sales meetings content and goals, and ensuring consistency with building and maintaining a Q&A database of standard questions for use in RFPs and RFIs. Solutions Consultant

The Solutions Consultant will identify, assess, and develop specific opportunities for the Accelrys' Professional Services group by creating custom solutions for individual customers. Travel to customer sites (at times up to 20%), engaging customers’ technical staff and management in technical-level discussions can be expected. A minimum of 1-2 years of experience in the chemicals, life, or materials sciences fields or a related industry is required. Understanding of enterprise architecture and application development including knowledge of application servers, J2EE, .NET, Linux and clustering technologies, server redundancy, fail-over, clustering, grid technologies, security concerns such as LDAP and single sign-on is desired. Experience working in an environment containing Oracle 8i through 10g is preferred. B.S. in computer science, chemistry, biology, mathematics, or chemical engineering is required; M.S. or a PhD is a plus.

Materials Science Applications Scientist

We’re looking for a motivated and dynamic scientist to work closely with customers and our sales team to provide pre-sales support for Accelrys’ Materials Science software and the Pipeline Pilot Scientific Platform with a focus on the chemical, petrochemical, consumer package goods and energy industries.  This role offers the ability to work closely with customers to help discover their scientific and business needs and to convey the capabilities of Accelrys in meeting those requirements. The successful candidate will work closely with the sales team providing scientific and technical presentations to promote our products and services, both to new and existing customers. Other key responsibilities will include developing scientific application examples, providing marketing input for product development, coordinating the delivery of services by departments within the company, and proactively managing customer accounts in concert with the sales team. Due to the high customer-facing nature of the role, it requires someone with outstanding interpersonal skills and a willingness to travel up to 30% of the time. Qualified candidates must possess a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or Physics. A solid background in computational materials science, with experience in either quantum mechanics and/or classical/mesoscale simulation technologies is required along with excellent oral and written communication skills.  Scripting experience is desirable as is experience with software packages used in the chemicals industry.

Life Sciences Applications Scientist

The successful candidate will work closely with the sales team providing scientific and technical presentations to promote our products and services, both to new and existing customers. Other key responsibilities will include providing marketing input for product development, coordinating the delivery of services by departments within the company, and proactively managing customer accounts in concert with the sales team. Due to the high customer-facing nature of the role, it requires someone with outstanding interpersonal skills and a willingness to travel up to 30% of the time. This position could be based out of a home office. Qualified candidates must possess a Ph.D. in Computational Chemistry, Organic Chemistry or Biochemistry with a minimum of 5 years of post Ph.D. experience in a pharmaceutical, biotechnology or computational scientific software company. Experience in the area of molecular modeling, structure based drug design, ligand based drug design, protein modeling and molecular dynamics is required. Expertise with Pipeline Pilot or any other workflow engine and technical knowledge in one or more scripting languages like PERL or PYTHON is highly desirable. Some development/scripting experience is desirable as is experience with molecular modeling software packages used in pharmaceutical and biotech industry. Oracle database installation and maintenance experience would be an advantage.

Product Manager, Biological Science

Reporting to the Sr. Director of Product Management, the Product Manager, Biological Sciences will spearhead the specification and design of Accelrys’ next generation of scientific software products for the biological sciences based on our world-class Pipeline Pilot informatics platform. The Product Manager will be charged with the technical vision for the product line, lifecycle mangement of the Pipeline Pilot component collections as well as working with ecosystem partners. Key areas of focus include collections for the identification and validation of biomarkers and all aspects of translational research-related tools including Sequence Analysis, Next Generation Sequencing, Mass Spec for Proteomics, Gene Expression and R-Statistics. The Product Manager will also be responsible for technical webinars, datasheets, and case studies. Travel to customer sites and conferences can be expected.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in Biology, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Mathematics, Statistics or Computer Science; MBA preferred.
  • Minimum of 4 years of hands on experience within scientific software.
  • Verifiable track record of successfully defining and launching complex software products in a product management capacity, including interfacing with developers and managing requirements, quality control and alpha and beta testing.
  • At least 4+ years experience in Biotechnology related industries (genomics, proteomics, sequencing, bioinformatics) and a strong statistics background.
  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority is required.
  • Excellent communication skills are a must.

 

Sr. Product Marketing Manager, Life Sciences

The Sr. Product Marketing Manager, Life Sciences is responsible for managing our industry-leading life sciences modeling and simulation software portfolio.  The primary responsibility of this important role will be to develop relationships with key customers and stake holders within the areas of research and drug design, ultimately influencing product direction. Another key area of focus includes the identification of market trends within the pharmaceutical and biotech space that will direct the creation of go-to-market plans for the Life Sciences business unit. This position will also proactively assess the effectiveness of our worldwide sales channel strategies by providing field sales personnel with the knowledge, strategy and materials to ensure sales effectiveness with this product line. The qualified candidate will possess at least 3 years experience in the pharmaceutical or life sciences sector and at least 2 years of product marketing experience within the software industry.  Candidates with knowledge of chemistry and biology and experience with molecular modeling visualization and simulation applications will take precedence in the selection process. The ideal candidate will have a track record of excellence in leadership and influence across cross-functional teams as well as a history of driving and taking dynamic ownership of his/her business line. A degree in chemistry, biology or other scientific discipline is required; MBA preferred. Excellent communication skills and a proven ability to foster a sense of collaboration will be required.
