Accelrys and its predecessors have been based in Cambridge since 1989. The original Cambridge operation was a startup software company that emerged from the University's Materials Science Department. The company retains close ties with the local academic and high tech community.
Accelrys moved to its new European Headquarters at the Cambridge Science Park in May 2002. The location houses around 150 people. Research and development is focused on simulation and informatics software for materials research and on cheminformatics. Service, sales, marketing, and administrative teams are also located here.
London Stansted Airport, which has flights to many European destinations and to New York, is 40 minutes drive to the south. A coach service runs hourly to Cambridge bus station. Trains run regularly approximately every 30 minutes from Stansted airport to the Cambridge train station. If you decide to drive, take the M11 to Cambridge and follow directions from London (below).
London's Heathrow and Gatwick airports are both around one and a half hours drive from Cambridge - or two hours by coach. Both have regular coach services to Cambridge - find the Cambridge Coach Services stand at the Airport coach station. If you decide to drive from Heathrow, take the M25 east to the A1. Join the A1 northbound, exiting at Baldock. Follow signs for Royston and then Cambridge. You will enter Cambridge from the south (see below). From Gatwick, take the M23 to the M25. Follow the M25 east to the M11 junction. Take the M11 north and then follow directions below. Alternatively you can reach Cambridge by taking underground/rail links to London's Kings Cross Station and catching the train. King's Cross is about 45 minutes from Heathrow Airport by underground.
By Train
Trains run regularly (at least once every half hour) between Cambridge and London King's Cross. The journey takes between 50 minutes and 1 hr 15 minutes.
Cambridge trains also run to London Liverpool Street - average journey time being around 1 hr 15 mins.
Trains also run regularly approximately every 30 minutes from Stansted airport to the Cambridge train station.
Direct trains are also available to: Birmingham, Bury St Edmunds, Ely, Ipswich, King's Lynn, Leicester, Liverpool, Manchester, Newmarket, Nottingham, Norwich, Peterborough and Sheffield. Change at Peterborough for: Doncaster, Leeds, York, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Glasgow.
Cambridge station is about 10-15 minutes taxi ride from the Science Park, longer during rush hours.
By Road
From London and the South:
Exit the M11 at Junction 14, joining the A14 (E)
Exit at the second junction, signposted for Cambridge and Ely (A10)
Turn right at the roundabout, heading towards Cambridge and getting into the right-hand lane as you exit the roundabout.
Turn right at the second set of lights, signposted for the Science Park, taking the left hand of the 2 lanes accessing the Science Park
On entering the Park, turn left at the roundabout
Look out for the Accelrys sign at Unit 334, the third entrance on the right hand side of the road.
From the North (Huntingdon/Peterborough):
Take the exit before the A14 merges with the M11, joining the A14 (E)
Now proceed as above.
From the West (Bedford):
Follow signs for the A14 (E)
Now proceed as above.
From the East (Newmarket):
Exit the A14 at second Cambridge junction, signposted for Cambridge and Ely (A10)
Turn left at the roundabout, heading towards Cambridge and getting into the right-hand lane as you exit the roundabout.
Turn right at the second set of lights, signposted for the Science Park, taking the left hand of the 2 lanes accessing the Science Park
On entering the Park, turn left at the roundabout
Look out for the Accelrys sign at Unit 334, the third entrance on the right hand side of the road.
