Senior Software Engineer – Java based web services

Location: Cambridge
Job Code: SWC08

This individual will be part of a team developing web services and client applications for Cheminformatics Enterprise applications. You will also be involved with developing and supporting the Oracle backend that supports the application.

As part of an agile development environment, you will help define the architecture and user interfaces via rapid iterative development of components. You will work closely with other team members to meet overall product schedules and quality standards, and be capable of independently driving development projects to a successful conclusion.

Qualified to degree level in either a computer science or chemistry related scientific discipline, you are highly competent at developing Java-based web services. Experience with one or more of Struts, Spring, JUnit, Hibernate, and Tomcat is a strong advantage as is oracle or PL/SQL expertise and good knowledge of C++.

 

Software Engineer – C, C++

Location: Cambridge

In this Software Engineer role, you'll get involved in all aspects of the development and integration of new capabilities within a diverse range of applications - from inception through specification, design, development, implementation, testing and documentation. Responsibilities also include validation studies, tracking and monitoring of technological developments. Key to this role will be your ability to work closely with scientists/software engineers, as well as marketing, to define product specifications, scientific algorithms and software design.

This position requires a proven track record of developing commercial standard software within Windows and UNIX/Linux based environments, C and C++ expertise and the ability to translate requirements into detailed design and development plans.

Experience with Fortran90 and MPI would be advantageous.

 

Release Engineering Engineer

Location: Cambridge

The Release Engineering Engineer will be responsible for installer development and product builds at the Cambridge location and will ensure that release engineering tasks are performed in a timely, consistent, and reliable manner.

Key responsibilities will include ensuring that source repositories are administrated correctly; product builds are completed and published, and updates to the release engineering environment are made efficiently. Additionally the Release Engineering Engineer will resolve support requests and queries from both local and US based research and development.

Besides a first degree in a technical area, candidates should have competent installer development skills and experience of MSI and Installshield will be extremely advantageous. With a willingness to learn new technologies quickly and a methodical approach to problem solving you will also be familiar with Source Control Management systems such as CVS on Windows and Linux.

Candidates should be able to work with minimal supervision as a member of a small team in a technical environment and the following are all advantageous skills;

•  Familiarity with the product development life cycle and quality testing assurance methodologies

•  Familiarity with (g)make

•  An understanding of basic Windows/Linux system administration.

 

Research Scientist

Location: Loughborough, UK

This Research Scientist/Post Doc role is a newly created vacancy based at one of our key customer sites. Based within AstraZeneca's Computational Chemistry team in Loughborough, UK, you will establish a collaborative research programme between Accelrys and AstraZeneca to maximise the utilisation and return from QSAR methods. Potential projects areas include: definition of local models by compound series; evaluation of different descriptor sets for compound design; and evaluation of different machine learning methods in prediction.

This challenging role calls for a first degree in Chemistry or a related science discipline and a PhD in Computational Chemistry, Cheminformatics, Molecular Modelling or a computer related science (we will accept applications from those who are soon to be PhD qualified). Your knowledge will span UNIX environments, Cheminformatics and/or small molecule modelling, QSAR modelling techniques and at least one multivariate supervised QSAR method.

As you will be based on AstraZeneca's site you will need to be confident, driven and self-motivated with excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work independently in an often challenging environment.

 

Maintenance Technician

Location: Cambridge , UK

If you've practical experience of dealing with routine maintenance in an office environment, you'll enjoy this hands-on role within Accelrys. From basic electrical and plumbing work to painting, moving furniture and grounds maintenance it will be to you that we turn. With your experience of carrying out planned preventative and reactive maintenance, we'll also expect you to be able to supervise external building contractors and perform basic fire & safety functions. As the first point of contact for out of hours security calls, you must live within the local area.
