All New DiscoveryGate:
Source Compounds Quickly and Efficiently
All new DiscoveryGate is an easy-to-use portal for sourcing compounds faster, more efficiently, and more cost-effectively via the web. Scientists have long requested Google- and Amazon-like access to scientific information, and now they have it in a single, reliable site.
All new DiscoveryGate speeds chemical sourcing and lowers costs by enabling scientists to:
- Exhaustively search over 890 chemical suppliers, over one million unique chemical structures, over three million chemical products, and over six million packages in bulk and research quantities listed in the Available Chemicals Directory (ACD)
- Generate compound libraries with favorable drug-like properties by searching over nine million compounds and over 20 million products from over 50 suppliers listed in the Screening Compounds Directory (SCD)
- Perform one-stop chemical sourcing through easy text searching by common identifiers such as MFCD numbers or chemical names, as well as by chemical structure
- Leverage straight-forward filtering of results that facilitates price, quantity, and purity comparisons across all suppliers, enabling researchers to identify the most cost-effective purchases quickly and easily
- Use just a username and a password to rapidly build shopping lists of commercially available compounds from hundreds of suppliers worldwide—saving both cost and time

Recent Accelrys Product Releases
Over the past few months, Accelrys has launched the following products.
The Materials Studio Collection for Pipeline Pilot (MSC) was launched in June at the Accelrys Japanese User Group Meeting. This new software solution enables scientific R&D organizations, for the first time, to integrate predictive analytics for materials properties seamlessly into their scientific workflows. It extends Accelrys’ Pipeline Pilot scientific informatics platform to include key materials modeling and simulation tools from Accelrys’ Materials Studio application—offering a powerful combination that greatly increases research productivity across the scientific enterprise. With it, users can:
- Create multi-step workflows with easy graphical programming
- Accelerate throughput by automating calculations and utilizing new parallel processing options
- Generate reports including interactive visualization of materials
- Deploy essential functions as web-based applications across the organization
To learn more, view the Materials Studio Collection webinar recording or read the product datasheet.
Pipeline Pilot 8.0, which was launched in May at the Accelrys North American User Group Meeting, includes a significant number of new enhancements that increase productivity, improve operational efficiency, and reduce costs, including:
- Enhanced rapid application development and deployment
- Enhanced performance, security and scalability
- Improved reporting and collaboration features
- An expanded set of scientific capabilities in the Imaging, Statistics and Chemistry Collections

The Accelrys Biological Registration application was released in April, becoming the world’s first multi-entity, fully-integrated system for registering, relationship-tracking, querying, and reporting on complex biological entities. Built in close collaboration with top pharmaceutical companies, this award-winning system helps protect IP, improve operational efficiency, and reduce total cost of ownership compared to building and maintaining an in-house system. It comprises a fully functional biological registration database, with out-of-the-box templates for eight major biological entities, including yeast, cell line, DNA, protein, plasmid, vaccine, antibody, and siRNA.
To learn more, view the Accelrys Biological Registration webinar recordings, request the IDC Health Industry Insight Perspective white paper, read the R&D Directions Insider interview with Accelrys CSO Dr. Frank Brown, or download the product datasheet.
Webinar Recording and Case Study: “Cross-Discipline ELN Implementation and Integration at Millennium”
Looking for tips on how to implement a single ELN across disciplines? Check out a recent webinar and supplemental case study in which Gabriel Weatherhead, Lead Systems Engineer at Millennium: The Takeda Oncology Company, describes how his company implemented an ELN from Symyx in chemistry and, most recently, in biology. Learn more about:
- The key business drivers and benefits of implementing a single ELN platform
- Challenges associated with electronically managing biological versus chemical data
- Tips to ensure a successful ELN deployment
- Lessons Millennium learned from its chemistry implementation—and how it applied them in biology
- Tactics Millennium used to choose an ELN for its scientists
- Reasons why Millennium’s legal team advocated strongly for an ELN

IDC Report: “Accelrys Biological Registration: Mastering Biological R&D at Its Roots"
In this new white paper, IDC Health Industry Insights notes that the ability to effectively track, manage, and advance promising biologics is more important than ever in an environment that increasingly demands higher levels of operational efficiencies than ever before. They predict the Accelrys Biological Registration System will deliver significant value to organizations and, as a result, should achieve rapid industry adoption over the next several years. Why? Because the system handles the complexity of biological systems and enables organizations to:
- Manage and protect IP by effectively registering, tracking, and managing promising biologics
- Improve productivity by better capturing and sharing company knowledge
- Achieve cost savings by eliminating redundant research
- Improve ROI by interfacing with ELNs and other major applications
