Symyx Notebook by Accelrys Advances Drug Development
Symyx Notebook by Accelrys efficiently connects scientists, instruments and software within the analytical, process and formulation areas of drug development.

Symyx Notebook by Accelrys efficiently connects scientists, instruments and software within the analytical, process and formulation areas of drug development.

With the average revenue for a top-20 blockbuster drug hovering around $16.6M/day/drug, every day saved in drug development offers significant ROI opportunities for Pharma Dev organizations.

Last month’s release of Symyx Notebook by Accelrys v. 6.6—adding formulations capabilities to the notebook’s existing support for analytical and process scientists—spotlights drug development and the many ways an ELN helps accelerate therapeutic substances from research through development to early manufacturing.

Symyx Notebook by Accelrys is a multidisciplinary electronic lab notebook (ELN) supporting analytical, process and formulation scientists working in chemistry, manufacturing and controls (CMC). This is the area concerned with the nature of drug substances and drug products and how to select, optimize, validate and scale-up drug development procedures using efficient, validated and compliant processes.

The ELN offers out-of-the-box configurations and productivity-enhancing capabilities that accelerate drug development by providing consistent, end-to-end documentation of the design, execution, analysis, and reporting of results, as well as tight integration with software and instrumentation (CDS, LIMS, balances, etc.). The ELN reduces re-invention as scientists can quickly learn from what others have documented. It also reduces experiment repetition as scientists can easily see what has been done before. Faster information transfer moves recipes and SOPs quickly to the next step of the workflow. Improved coordination and tracking means scientists can assign tasks, link experiments and rapidly import results and analyses generated by colleagues.
Sitting within the Enterprise Lab Management pillar of the Accelrys Enterprise R&D Architecture, Symyx Notebook by Accelrys meets drug development’s need for an upgraded informatics environment that drives improved efficiency and compliance through tighter integration of scientists, instruments and software.

Accelrys Modeling & Simulation: Improving Outcomes
with Predictive Science and the QSAR Workbench

As a key pillar of the new Accelrys Enterprise R&D Architecture, the Accelrys Modeling & Simulation Suite offers a unified platform for the automation and expert use of predictive science, improving outcomes, quality and sustainability in R&D. The suite, which includes the recently released Accelrys QSAR Workbench, gives R&D organizations access to the broadest, deepest predictive science capabilities ranging across small molecules, biomolecules, chemicals and materials.

The Accelrys Modeling and Simulation Suite includes Discovery Studio® software for life sciences R&D, Materials Studio software for scientists working in chemicals and materials R&D, the Pipeline Pilot™ Life Science and Materials Modeling and Simulation Collections, and the new QSAR Workbench.  Developed in collaboration with pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline and available as a packaged service offering from Accelrys Professional Services, the Accelrys QSAR Workbench automates and accelerates the development, validation and deployment of predictive Quantitative Structure-Activity Relationship (QSAR) models, improving decision making in R&D organizations. The unified Pipeline Pilot platform underlying QSAR Workbench extends the productivity and reach of expert statisticians within an R&D organization, capturing best practices of QSAR design, streamlining model development, reducing errors and automating manual, tedious and error-prone processes so that every project benefits from a model. Optimal models can then be saved and deployed more widely for immediate use by others.

NGS Collection for Pipeline Pilot

Case Study: “Building Novel Applications with Pipeline Pilot to drive Next Generation Sequencing”

Learn how the release of the Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) Collection for Pipeline Pilot is enabling scientists and informaticians to build and perform complex analyses of DNA sequence information in dramatically streamlined fashion. In this case study, Richard Carter of Oxford Nanopore Technologies Ltd. highlights some key benefits of the NGS Collection including simpler DNA sequencing workflows such as quality assessment and filtering, visualizing gene content or density, identifying and comparing SNPs and other variants and comparing RNA expression across experiments or individuals.
