The 2008 Accord User Group Meeting - Registration Now Open
Registration is now open for the 2nd annual Accord UGM taking place in San Diego at the Inn At Rancho Santa Fe on the afternoon of Tuesday, March 4th, and morning of Wednesday, March 5th. This free-to-attend event will begin with an optional open-lab on Tuesday the morning, where you will be able to work with Accord experts to explore the software and address any questions you might have. The official meeting will take place from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday morning. After the Accord UGM ends at lunchtime on Wednesday, you will have the option to join the first afternoon of the SciTegic Pipeline Pilot User Group Meeting, which is being held at the same venue from March 5th – March 7th . Please consider submitting a presentation proposal and help make this Accord UGM a great success (Deadline to submit is January 18th ). To Register or Submit a Presentation Proposal, visit the Accord UGM web page>>

Latest at the Accelrys Community

The Accelrys Community website provides the opportunity for users to share and download scripts and Pipeline Pilot components written by both users and Accelrys scientists. To view details and download the components and scripts, you must first register to become a member.
Here is the latest:

New Materials Studio and Discovery Studio Scripts

  • Categorize powder data by generating a study table that can be used with the QSAR tools to cluster the data into groups of patterns that display similarities. Download it here >>>
  • ZDOCK Analysis Script: Given a list of residues, finds which poses contain those residues in their binding interface. The script, therefore, produces output in which each queried residue name is written and a list of poses is written under it. Download it here >>>
  • ZDOCK Analysis Protocol: Exports protein-protein complexes for a specified set of poses and stores them in a mol2 file. Download it here >>>

Announcing SciTegic Pipeline Pilot Student Edition - Free to Academic Users
SciTegic Pipeline Pilot is used by over 300 companies worldwide to streamline the integration and analysis of the vast quantities of data flooding the research informatics world. Accelrys has now made a free version of Pipeline Pilot available to the academic community. Academic researchers are invited to use Pipeline Pilot to integrate their scientific applications, create data flows, and share these with co-workers and other researchers in academia and industry. BioCatalysis 2007.2 Now Available
BioCatalysis now totals 49,750 synthesis pathways with this release adding another 835 new reactions from 2007. Coverage includes pure enzymes, whole cells, catalytic antibodies and enzyme analogues. The database is compiled in collaboration with domain expert, Professor Bryan Jones (University of Toronto). Reference papers are selected based on their relevance to organic synthesis and only applicable entries are selected from a paper. BioCatalysis is a growing field, not only due to the benign conditions, but also because of the high degree of enantioselectivity that can be achieved, and the realization that enzymes can work just as well in organic solvents as in aqueous systems. Upcoming Conferences

High Content Analysis
Come see us at High Content Analysis in San Francisco, CA - January 14-17. Stop by the Accelrys Booth (booth #15) to get an up-close look at the latest image analysis solutions. While you're there, enter a drawing to win and Garmin GPS Hand-Held Navigation System. Dr. Michael Mancini of the Baylor College of Medicine will be giving a talk titled, "Multiplex Analysis of Nuclear Receptor Function at the Single Cell." In his talk, Dr. Mancini will report on the development of a high throughput (HT) image-based assay that quantifies androgen receptor (AR) subcellular distribution and transcriptional activity at the single cell level. Overall assay quality was superior to previous cell based assays, achieving EC50 coefficients of variation from 5-24%, and Z' values ranging between 0.46 and 0.91. Integration of Pipeline Pilot image analysis tools allowed for more accurate cell identification at higher cell densities, increasing assay robustness in heterogenous samples, and improved throughput due to the need for fewer images being collected. HT-based multiplex screening provides a rapid, systems-level analysis of compounds that may differentially affect wildtype AR or clinically-relevant AR mutations.

Theory, Modeling and Computational Methods for Semiconductor Materials and Nanostructures - Talk and Workshop
Join us at the University of Manchester on January 31 through February 1. Jacob Gavartin of Accelrys Contract Research Services will be speaking on "Ab Initio Modeling for Advanced Gate Stack Engineering." Jacob will be speaking at the School of Electrical Engineering in the Sackville Street Building on Thursday, January 31 at 12:15 pm. Alexandra Simperler of Accelrys Training will be running a two hour workshop on Thursday, January 31 at 1:10 pm. The workshop is titled, "Materials Studio for Semiconductor Research".

SmartLab Exchange - Talk on Automating Scientific Processes and Reporting
Join us for SmartLab Exchange taking place at Le Méridien Piccadilly, London, UK during February 6 - 7. Julian Willmott of Accelrys will be presenting a talk on Wednesday, February 6 entitled, "Automating scientific processes and reporting for analytical chemistry labs, experiment knowledge management and model selection systems." Talk abstract: Science companies revolve around experimentation because experiments produce the raw data for any scientific organization's most valuable product: intellectual property. Experimentation happens all the way through research and development and is nearly always orchestrated by overriding business processes. All too commonly, this essential information is hard to search, hard to find or completely lost, and expensive experiments end up being repeated. In this talk we will look at some approaches to solving these problems through automating and tracking scientific processes in disparate areas such as analytical chemistry, biological experimentation and material formulations.
