Case Study

Density Functional Theory Study on Hydrogen Absorption on Al12 Cages
Accelrys has collaborated with researchers at RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia to perform DFT calculations on Al12 clusters to evaluate their capacity for hydrogen absorption. Light metal clusters have gained significant attention in the literature, as many believe that developing an understanding of hydrogen interaction with such clusters could lead to the design of novel hydrogen absorbing nanomaterials. The study evaluated a series of Al12 clusters and found that these species do exhibit a number of desirable properties for the development of new hydrogen storage materials.
