Global Implementation of a Centralized Chemical Inventory System at The Dow Chemical Company
Presented by Matt Whaley, Associate Research Scientist, The Dow Chemical Company and Bryan Billings, Sr. Technical Specialist, BIOVIA CISPro

Have you ever wondered what it takes for a company to stay in business for more than a century? For The Dow Chemical Company, the answer lies in continual global innovation and investment in R&D. When problems arise, Dow finds solutions.

One such problem was how chemical inventory was managed. In-house systems had been developed and off-the-shelf spreadsheet software worked fine … until the chemical turnover exceeded the ability of these solutions to enable the labs to operate efficiently. Worse, with some data in one system and some in another, there was minimal ownership or detailed chemical location information available. Labs ordered chemicals that were already on site, causing unnecessary costs and wasted time. As a result, in 2013, The Dow Chemical Company began a pilot of a digital chemical inventory system within a single building in Midland, MI. One year later, Dow is rolling out this system to sites across the globe with an emphasis on its use to improve safety, regulatory compliance and cost savings.

During this webinar, Dr. Matt Whaley will describe the drivers for the implementation of a globally standardized chemical inventory system, the challenges of using such a system across multiple geographies with different languages and regulatory issues, and the workflow changes and efficiency improvements that have benefited researchers in the laboratories.

How to Incorporate Regulatory Lists to Ensure Chemical Inventory Compliance
Presented by Anne Sefried, Field Applications Engineer, BIOVIA

One of the most difficult EHS compliance challenges is tracking chemicals on site and providing accurate reports to the various regulatory agencies that monitor those chemicals. Most EHS professionals create internal regulatory lists to ensure they perform this task. However if the internal chemical tracking is inconsistent, the reports will be inaccurate and the risk of failing an audit is high.

For instance, if it is discovered that the Tier II reports are inaccurate, the organization can be subject to greater regulatory scrutiny, fines, and worse. Beyond regulatory compliance risk, the site safety may be at risk, even if unknowingly, when the exact quantity and location of materials are not certain.

Register for this webinar to learn how to manage your Regulatory Lists better, ensure that the information is accurate, and automate the creation of regulatory reports based on those lists.
