'Right to Know' and HazCom: The Ins and Outs of How the OSHA Rules Apply to Research Organizations

OSHA’s Right to Know regulations are undergoing significant changes that research organizations need to understand and ensure compliance with. In 2012, OSHA revised its Hazard Communication Standard to align with the United Nation’s Global Harmonization Standard (GHS). These changes affect all employers utilizing hazardous chemicals at their worksites.

GHS harmonization will have two main impacts: (1) Standardized label elements assigned by hazard class and category, and (2) standardized order of information for Safety Data Sheets (SDS). This means there are significant changes to both labels and SDSs and that employers are required to train their employees on these changes.

This webinar will help prepare research organizations to address the revisions to OSHA’s HazCom standard. It will provide a detailed explanation of OSHA’s changes to the Hazard Communication Standard.

Former Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health, Ed Foulke will discuss the new GHS and HazCom requirements concerning chemical labeling and Safety Data Sheets, including strategies for compliance. He will be joined by BIOVIA’s Anne Sefried who will discuss how technology enables both lab and EH&S professionals to seamlessly integrate processes and workflows associated with hazardous chemical and SDS management.

Viewers Will Learn:

  • The requirement of the new GHS and HazCom at a high level, with specific focus on the GHS changes and employer training obligations
  • How to understand the new chemical classifications and labeling requirements
  • How to understand and review the new Safety Data Sheets
  • Strategies for ensuring HazCom compliance and avoiding the risk of potential OSHA citations and penalties
  • Solutions that streamline chemical and SDS management
