Biologicals Registration Software and Services
Drug discovery organizations are becoming increasingly dependent on biological reagents and biological drug candidates/therapies. Some companies have systems in place to manage their inventory of these biologicals. However, most organizations do not have a way to understand the uniqueness or duplication of these entities. This, in turn, leads to duplication of effort and causes issues with IP protection. A biological registration system is designed to standardize and name biological entities, as well as to establish their uniqueness compared to other entities that are already registered. This is directly analogous to the chemical registration systems in place in almost all life science companies that allow new molecules to be identified as such, and molecules that have already been made to be identified as new batches of a known entity.
Accelrys Special Interest Group for Biologicals Registration
Accelrys has formed a special interest group (SIG) to develop software and database entity models to allow biological entities to be registered and stored in a database. The system will be extensible, with the ability to create and manage new entity models. The
SIG is a collaborative development project led by Accelrys in partnership with a group of member organizations from the pharmaceutical industry.
The SIG model allows for a cost-effective development of a solution, pooling of knowledge and requirements, and minimized expense through the sharing of cost across the participants.
