Q: What is DiscoveryGate?
A: The DiscoveryGate provides significant enhancements in both usability and functionality over the classic DiscoveryGate and is accessed directly through your web browser with no installation required, making it reliable and easy to use.
DiscoveryGate incorporates a powerful text search engine into the clean, user-friendly interface. Search by common identifiers like the MFCD number or chemical name. You also have the option to search by drawing a molecular structure.
One-stop chemical sourcing
DiscoveryGate is the ideal portal to Accelrys Available Chemicals Directory, a comprehensive chemical database of more than 900 suppliers, and Accelrys Screening Compounds Directory (SCD) with over 50 suppliers and over 9.5 million compounds. With DiscoveryGate, you can locate, compare, and make purchasing decisions with unmatched speed and efficiency. That means no more hunting around the web or toggling back and forth between sites for price or availability comparisons.
The reaction databases are no longer available via the DiscoveryGate. Reaction subscribers can continue to use reactions on DiscoveryGate Classic until May 31, 2012, at which time they will be retired. The Bioactiviety databases also will continue to be available via DiscoveryGate Classic until May 31, 2012, after which CMC, MDDR and Accelrys Toxicity will remain available via Isentris, ISIS and the DiscoveryGate Web Service (with MDDR and Toxicity also available as SDFiles). Accelrys Metabolite will remain available via Isentris and ISIS.

Q: How can I access ACD?
A: ACD is licensed by annual subscription on our all new DiscoveryGate platform. Please email Sales and one of our sales professionals will be in touch with you shortly.
Q: How do I include my products in ACD?
Q: Can I evaluate DiscoveryGate?
A: To evaluate DiscoveryGate, which includes ACD and SCD, please email Sales.
Q: Where do I find the system requirements for DiscoveryGate Classic?
Q: DiscoveryGate Classic allows searches by supplier catalog numbers. Will this functionality also be available in DiscoveryGate?
A: We are looking into bringing back catalog number searching. Since these numbers often turn out not to be unique, this functionality was disabled in DiscoveryGate because the results were not always accurate. We plan to redo the logic, and that should improve the results.
Q: Size of display is smaller in DiscoveryGate—are there planned enhancements here?
A: For now we’ve used smaller structure images while in grid view to ensure acceptable performance when loading results, although this is dependent on your screen resolution. We have added a "quick zoom" feature that allows you to see an expanded view of each structure thumbnail image directly from the grid view.
Q: The ability to print is limited and only prints the current page not the whole batch. Are there planned enhancements here?
A: Yes, printing and exporting and saving are all areas we are actively working to enhance.
Q: When we search chemicals in DiscoveryGate, can we export the results into a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet with structures?
A: In the DiscoveryGate we offer a few different ways to export data. First, you can export your shopping cart, which includes structures for users of ISIS for Excel or Isentris for Excel (users of standard Excel also can export their shopping cart but structures are not included at this time). You can also export your shopping cart as an SDFile, which includes Chime String information. The other way to export data is directly from a result set, as illustrated below. Clicking the “Export” button in the upper-right of the chemical detail view displays this dialog, which includes options for customizing the export.
From DiscoveryGate Classic you can export a list of structures into a spreadsheet. The structures are exported as Chimestrings which are recognized by Isentris for Excel and displayed as structures. If you use regular Excel, you will likely want to delete the Chimestring column. To create the spreadsheets, please see the “Help” Topic “Export/Files” which uses the “Export Records” link on the tool bar:
This toolbar (dark blue with white links) is where you find the export/save/import and related links. Please note that DiscoveryGate Classic will be retiring May 31, 2012.
Q: We currently access ACD via DiscoveryGate. Can we upload the data to our internal database?
A: DiscoveryGate itself does not support automatic uploads from ACD to internal databases. However, customers that license ACD on DiscoveryGate can use the DiscoveryGate Web Service to upload data programmatically, and some of our customers are doing that. This path requires someone at the customer end who can utilize XML to query the Web Service and receive data feeds that can then be directed to internal applications and databases.
We also supply monthly updates for ACD—for in-house use so that customers can host ACD on their own servers. These are available in Accelrys Direct and RCG formats (which would require the server version of Isentris or ISIS/Host), and then there are SDFile and RDFile formats which customers can use as they like.
Q: What are RDFiles and SDFiles?
A: Depending upon which database is being offered, the short explanation is that the SDFile contains either 2D structures or 3D models and data fields, while the RDFile provides 2D molecules or reaction structures along with data in a hierarchical format (not flat) which preserves the relationships between all values in all fields
Q: Does the CMC database include drugs withdrawn at any time from the market?
A: Possibly a few. This is not a searchable field in CMC.
Q: How many of the MDDR compounds have been commercialized or have been in the market at any time?
A: MDDR currently covers 197,500 compounds of which 1,883 are launched drugs.
Q: How often are the SDFiles released?
A: The SDFile formats are released with the same frequency as the database releases.
Q: Can I access the databases outside DiscoveryGate?
Q: I’d like to speak with someone in more detail about the Accelrys databases. Can someone contact me?
A: We would enjoy speaking with you about your interest in the Accelrys databases and how they might assist your research efforts. Please email Sales and our sales professionals will contact you shortly.
