Accord for Excel - 6.1 Update

Important Note: Please check your licence key before applying this patch to Accord for Excel version 6.0. If you have a "perpetual" license and the expiration date is after 31st Dec 2099, contact Accelrys support for a new licence key before installing the patch.

If you do not still have the key that was sent to you, the license expiration date can be found in the Accord6.ini file, located in the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Accelrys\Accord 6\System folder, by opening the file in a text editor and searching for the text string "UserLicence".

Some recent Microsoft Updates to WindowsXP have changed the way ActiveX security is handled and this prevents Accord for Excel Desktop versions 6.0 or 6.1 from installing or running. The updates that cause the problem are KB911652, KB908531, and KB912812. Other, later updates may also cause the problem. For more detail see, for example http://support.microsoft.com/kb/912812. The symptom of this problem is the error message "Compilation Error in hidden module: mSettings" when you attempt to run or install Accord for Excel Desktop.

To install this fix, download the zip archive and extract it to a temporary directory and then follow the instructions in the Readme.txt file. This patched version can be used for a new installation or installed on top of version 6.0 or 6.1. If you have earlier versions of Accord for Excel Desktop you should uninstall these before installing version 6.1.1

The problem is also seen with DS Accord for Excel Enterprise version 6.0 but can be resolved by upgrading to version 6.1.
